Patrick Schuelter capped an excellent few weeks for spdoRacing in the Open Wheel Racing League by dominantly winning the MRT Cup on Saturday evening, with the German driver winning four of the competition's six races.
The annual MRT Cup - consisting of three two-race events and taking place shortly after Christmas - kicked off by visiting the South City Town Reversed track.
And Schuelter wasted no time in demonstrating his ability, the German taking pole position for the opening race, half a second ahead of his nearest challenger.
A trouble-free opening race saw Schuelter cruise to victory ahead of SpeedCore's Pedro Marques, while an incident in the second race forced the spdoRacing driver to make a pit stop, the German eventually finishing the race in eighth position.
Schuelter’s pace was extremely impressive in the opening round, and in addition to his pole position in qualifying, the German gained the fastest lap in both races.
Round two – which featured the Aston Cadet Reversed configuration – saw Schuelter again take pole position, and this time the spdo driver comfortably won both races – again taking the fastest laps – to open up a large lead at the top of the standings.
And when the German driver followed pole position with a victory at Fern Bay Gold in the third and final round, the championship was his with one race to spare. The second race saw Schuelter move up from eighth position on the grid to finish in third place – his fifth podium finish in six races – the German once again setting the fastest time in both races.
